Indian Independence
India gained their independence on August 15, 1947. On this day, an Act called the Indian Independence Act was passed. This act seperated India into India and Pakistan.
Many people were involved in the movements into making India gain their independence. Two of the main people who contributed was Mohandas Gandhi and Jawaharial Nehru.
Mohandas Gandhi created a non-violent political strategy. In his time, he put together many campaigns. In 1992, he was arrested by British authorities in India. And in 1948, he was assasinated by a man who didn't agree with his point of view on the British partition plan.
Mohandas father was the chief minister of porbandar and his mother religious devotion meant that his upbringing was infuse with the jain pacifist teaching of mutual tolerance.

They wanted their own land where they could be full and equal citizens. Nationalist leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi helped rally Indians behind independent rule.
